The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) was organized by the American Society of Dentistry for Children in 1940.
It is recognized as that organization that confers “Board Certification” upon those individuals who meet educational qualifications defined by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, having graduated from an accredited specialty program in accordance with guidelines established by the United States Department of Education and who have successfully completed a rigorously standardized and validated examination process assessing all phases of the components of the art and science of Pediatric Dentistry necessary to be among the most highly qualified within the specialty.
ABPD values the provision of the highest quality oral health care for children. Such care is thoughtful, careful, ethical and based on the current scientific evidence. It takes into account the best interest of the patient and is respectful of the patient and his/her family.
ABPD values a health professional’s commitment to lifelong learning. ABPD values candidates’ and diplomates’ desire to practice pediatric dentistry at the highest level and their commitment to constantly reevaluate their practices in light of the most recent scientific evidence. ABPD recognizes the value of renewal of certification and continuing education for health professionals.
ABPD values quality improvement in health care through objective assessment of outcomes and process. It supports efforts to provide optimal health care to children.
The mission of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is to advance optimal oral health for all children by delivering outstanding service that meets and exceeds the needs and expectations of our members, partners and stakeholders.
